Relational Systems

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing what we can do, and how we do it.

My work in relational systems looks at how people and organizations engage intelligent technologies over time, and how those relationships shape judgment, creativity, agency, trust, and decision-making.

What kind of relationship are we building with it as it continues to grow and evolve?
The Starting Point

Relationship Before Tools

Most conversations about AI begin with capability. What can it automate? What can it write? What can it do faster?

I begin somewhere else.

What should remain human?

Judgment. Authorship. Responsibility. Discernment.

The ability to notice when a system is helping, when it is narrowing our thinking, and when we are beginning to hand over more than we intended.

The technology matters. The relationship matters more.

Three Scales

Three Scales of Practice

Personal

How do I engage with AI without losing my own voice?

How do I know when I am collaborating, as opposed to outsourcing my thinking?

The work begins by clarifying what you want the relationship to support, what you want to preserve, and where your own judgment needs to remain primary.

Professional Practice

AI can extend a practice without replacing the practitioner. The question is where it belongs.

What should remain strictly yours? What can be delegated? Where does AI strengthen your work?

The goal is not maximum automation. It is thoughtful integration.

Organization

When AI enters an organization, it changes more than workflow.

It changes authority, responsibility, communication, and decision-making.

The work begins by understanding what you are trying to accomplish, where AI may actually be useful, and what needs to remain clearly human.

The Through-Line

Every Technology Teaches Us How to Relate

Some systems reward speed and extraction. Some encourage dependence.

Others create room for reflection, challenge, and collaboration.

Over time, repeated interaction becomes practice. We begin to learn what to trust, what to question, what to hand over… and what to keep.

The way we design the relationship shapes what the technology becomes in our lives.

The Method

How I Work

01

Relationship

First, we clarify the relationship you actually want with AI and how it will best support your intentions.

What should the system support? What should it challenge? What should it never replace?

02

Capability

Then we look at what the technology can realistically do.

Not every new tool belongs in your life, your practice, or your organization. We identify the capabilities that actually serve the work.

03

Implementation

Only then do we decide how the relationship becomes practice.

That may mean new workflows, clearer boundaries, different model roles, or a more intentional way of working with AI.

Relationship first. Capability second. Implementation third.

Ways to Work With Me

Personal Relational AI Architecture

For individuals developing a more deliberate way of thinking, creating, or working with AI.

Across three sessions, we clarify the role you want AI to play, the boundaries you want to keep, and the practices that help you stay in relationship with your own judgment.

Professional AI Practice Architecture

For writers, educators, consultants, practitioners, and other professionals integrating AI into an existing body of expertise.

Across four sessions, we define authorship, delegation, model roles, boundaries, workflows, and the places where human responsibility must remain clear.

Founder & Organizational AI Architecture

For founders and teams deciding where AI belongs, where it does not, and what needs to remain clearly human.

We begin with an intake and leadership working sessions to understand the organization, its goals, constraints, and decision-making needs.

The Larger Research Behind the Practice

This work is informed by a broader research program in relational AI.

Through Trivian Institute, I contribute to research on human-AI interaction, governance, coherence, agency, and multi-agent systems.

How do relationships between intelligent systems change over time?

Can drift be detected? Can useful difference be preserved?

Can governance happen before harm instead of after it?

If you want to go deeper, that work lives elsewhere.

Relational Agency

Engage With the Technology.
Keep Your Discernment.

AI does not enter our lives as technology alone. It enters through the relationship we cultivate with it.

And every repeated interaction teaches us something about trust, authority, authorship, dependence, creativity, and ourselves.

The goal is not to fear the technology, nor is it to surrender to it. The goal is to engage deliberately.

Engage with the technology. Keep your judgment. Design the relationship on purpose.
